Trump's incessant delay tactics pushed back the trial by nearly a month. His defense in court went a lot longer than it reasonably could have. He leaned on holidays and breaks to stretch out the trial. And his federal immunity appeals (& SCOTUS allies) created the decision delay.

We're here at this point because Trump made sure of those delays, and now Merchan is giving in to the Trump calendar. But there's another reason why this reasoning might falter.

classic "serialized" tv (like THE WIRE, DEADWOOD, etc) paid ruthless attention to structure –– A-plot resolved by the credits, B-plot for supporting, and further the overall story. now we get the "eight hour movie' with arbitrary cut-off points, so everything moves like molasses

throw a dart at a random streamer show and ask what was introduced, what was resolved, and what narrative threads were truly pushed forward within individual episodes. the answer is not much, and you get the feeling of "this is just a bunch of stuff happening," which sucks.
