Cars aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so in the meantime, I'll be advocating for the US auto industry to end the vehicular arms race and trend design towards smaller cars.

When you move around primarily or exclusively by car, you may not see the evidence of car crashes around you:

bent sign posts
broken car pieces
broken windshield glass
tire marks, etc.

For those who travel by 🚶🏻, 🚲 & 🚌 these reminders are everywhere on sidewalks & streets.

A couple of utes can park on a high volume shared path with no warning signage AT ALL.

Does it make a mockery of the multiple signs - placed at varying distances, for long periods of time - when a road is obstructed.

A lot is about the attitude it is said. If it is said with a friendly FYI I'm here & passing usually OK. If it's a get out of my EFFING way voice then you are going to get adverse actions. On Perth, Western Australia's shared paths bells seem to scare pedestrians my age or older.

🚶🏻, 🚲 , & 🚌 see the results of car violence every time they travel.

Even better if there is a pedestrian/active transport lane linking one cul-de-sac with another.

Before anyone asks; yes, I have lived next to one of these laneways. Laneways are less of an antisocial issue than living on a arterial road linking the outer suburbs to the CBD.

I’m always in awe of the ability of people to navigate crowds & constrained spaces while walking/biking/rolling.

The smaller size, and ability to use verbal & nonverbal cues helps makes this process easier and less stressful than doing it in a car.
