The grey-crowned babbler is a type of bird found in Kakadu National Park, and they're sometimes called yahoo birds because the males and females produce an in-sync call, with females crying 'yaa!' and males following with 'hoo!' 📷 Credit: Luke Paterson, NT Bird Specialists

Up to 216 Australian birds are now threatened with extinction. But 23 Australian birds became less threatened over the past decade, showing conservation actions can work.

I am so bored with the word 'ecosystem' being co-opted by tech. An inter-related and inter-depentent network of engineered things does not make an ecosystem. The word becomes meaningless once it can be applied to anything. The words we use matter the meaning they convey mould us.

A lovely evening on the BirdLife Top End bird walk around Lee Point. We saw 35 different species! Including a lifer for me, the Australian Owlet-nightjar. Birds are so much better than bulldozers. #saveleepoint Tanya Plibersek

Doctors, lawyers, scientists, and community members spoke this afternoon at a community event to engage with neighbours of Binybara Camp (Lee Point) to share an update on the campaign. Great local turnout and lots of energy from the community to take action 🌏🦜🍃💚

THANKYOU to everyone who got us to this point! Those who raised the alarm, carried the message to the masses, watched over the camp, put their bodies on the line, and of course, to the Larrakia Elders, who I will forever be in awe of for their strength, kindness and resilience.
