It's September&our new #birdofthemonth is the humble redshank. Easily identified by their red legs& reddish beak at the base, redshanks are common overwintering birds& some even breed on our coast. Despite this, they're on the UK AmberList due to changing agricultural practices.

#WaderWednesday Spoonbills are a spectacle! Related to Ibises, they hunt aquatic prey by sweeping from side to side through water. After a 300 year gap, they're breeding here again. Many have been spotted at Wrabness, Old Hall Marshes, Tollesbury &of course Abberton Reservoir.

Thousands of birds are now arriving to the 8 Special Protection Areas spanning our Coast. The Thames Estuary, Benfleet& Southend,Dengie peninsula, the Blackwater Estuary , River Stour, River Colne, RiverCrouch& RiverRoach, and Hamford Water are all in need of our love and care
