Approximately one-quarter of cases of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia are thought to be related to peripheral intravenous catheters, with about 40% having been inserted in the emergency department (ED). Implications for paramedic practice? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Overall, the intubation success rate was 78.8%, and the first-pass success rate was 68.5%. This is disturbingly low. How does this compare with local data? sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

“Constipation was the top non-emergency call-out with 515 calls”. This represents 0.04% of the 1,063,881 incidents managed in 2023 (ROGS 2024). Hardly a major encumbrance. 9news.com.au/national/nsw-a…

The appointment of chief paramedics is a step forward for ambulance trusts - I think they are obliged to have chief medical officers and chief nurses but only recently have started appointing someone from their largest registered workforce.

Interesting to see “no change in response performance was observed for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients, or patients requiring transport to hospital with lights and sirens. There was also minimal change in the proportion of callers presenting to ED” What’s driving demand?

Adoption of Paramedic Advanced Life Support in Ontario was driven by the desire to improve cardiac arrest survival but in my experience the biggest & most positive improvement was being able to provide pain control for patients.
