IGAD conducted a National Dialouge with Women parliamentarians on the nexus between gender, land and climate resilience in the context of Uganda aimed at Strengthening Women leaders' capacity in land governance, climate action and gender- responsive policymaking

Parliament is hosting the 2nd National Symposium on Land Governance in Uganda on the theme: 'Securing Women's Agricultural Land Ownership: A Political and Development Imperative'. Key sector players are set to discuss women's land ownership as a catalyst for rural transformation.

The Chairperson of the Uganda Parliamentarians Land Management Forum, Hon. Kaaya Christine Naki, points out the need to amplify discussions on land governance, dispute resolution and policy. She also urges responsible entities to counter backlog on land advocacy.

Presenting a message on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Judith Nabakooba says land in Uganda is a source of livelihood and identity but remains of marginalisation particularly for women.

Judith Nabakooba "Women with secure land rights are more likely to adopt climate smart agriculture, diversify income and educate their children. Therefore enhancing women's access to and ownership of agricultural land is not a charity, it is a strategic investment in Uganda's present and future."
