I'm teaching a course on historical research skills for creative writers and putting together 2 handouts for next week on resources for Black and Asian British history and resources for LGBTQ+ British history. Does anyone have an existing list they'd be happy to share?

Food-themed travel books have become popular over the last 30 years, but can anyone think of any earlier examples -- 19th or early 20th century?

Getting ready for an outdoor socially distanced Christmas meal in our back garden tomorrow with wife, daughter and a friend. Hot soup, mini jacket potatoes, nice cheese and lots of salad-y things. Weather forecast looks remarkably good.

Throwing out a challenge to the men on my twitter feed, especially pastors. It's mainly women who've booked for this so far. Does this imply that men aren't interested in the issue?

Does anyone know of any research on techniques of abridging in the 19th century? I'm thinking of the various novel series which cut 3 vol. novels down to 64 pages. Or any contemporary comment on the practice? All my searches have so far drawn a blank.

British Association of Romantic Studies/North American Society for Study of Romanticism August 2021 face-to-face conference now postponed till 2022. Potentially the first of many?

Does anyone know if it's safe to store late 19th century cheap pamphlets in a loft with fluctuating temperatures? I have a full set of Stead's Penny Poets and around 80% of Books for the Bairns, but I'm not currently working on them and my office is impossibly full!
