The SA gov really needs to urgently derisk and decouple the US from as many of our supply chains as possible. It would seem prudent since there is obviously a significant risk of spasmodic economic sanctions over the next three years.

Mayor Hill-Lewis will be a significant improvement for the DA and will be the least surprising appointment, but he is surely going to inherit a messy situation as the DA tries to untangle itself from the GNU. moneyweb.co.za/news/south-afr…

The dissonance of the SARB as an organ of state defining its mandate as solely about lowering inflation while all other relevant SOEs are forced to hike prices far in excess of general inflation given the shift from central funding for infrustructure onto their balance sheets.

Underrated factor in why English-speaking countries have especially bad housing crises is their common law systems (adversarial and litigious) vs judge-led civil law systems elsewhere. Makes Anglo planning/permitting systems especially vulnerable to NIMBYs and other objections.

A useful and timely intervention from the US Supreme Court - it is clear the power to levy a tax or tariff is a legislative power and not one that can be delegated to the Pres/executive. Hopefully, soon, we will see a similar judgment in SA re VAT. theguardian.com/us-news/2026/f…

Buddy Wells SA has about 20 000 doctors for 53m people who use the public sector. the shortfall to achieve OECD benchmarks is 150 000 doctors. it is impossible for 20 000 doctors to provide an adequate service. comparisons of share of gdp, per capita gdp and productivity are not relevant
