Can the feds state that mortgage fraud is a big enough issue that it warrants direct income verification with tax authorities and then NOT push for more responsibility on the part of lenders when they put in claims for losses on insured loans? This is a can of worms. I love it

Chambers is one of the good guys who is more interested in making a real difference than scoring cheap political points. Huge respect

All the goofs eye-rolling that they will 'consult the industry' are missing the bigger message.

Our government just acknowledged that mortgage fraud is a big issue. That seems kind of important.

BTW, the feds are at least SAYING the right things. We'll see if they follow through.

Where TF are the provinces, especially Ontario? Absolutely no ideas and no apparent motivation to try to address the issue.

A LOT of really good ideas in this housing plan, but literally none that weren't being suggested years ago.

Better late than never, but they still get to own this crisis.

This housing plan from the current government is full of excellent ideas that could actually move the needle.

Unfortunate that it comes 8 years too late and only after the public has lost trust in their ability or willingness to actually follow through.

Expanding amortization on insured mortgages out to 30 yrs on new-build is a sensible policy change that represents a modest loosening in credit. Not a game-changer

I would LOVE to see them simultaneously announce direct income verification via CRA to stamp out mortgage fraud.

Peter Kiriazopoulos Steve Saretsky Ben Rabidoux Well deserved👏
Ben was always on top of this topic and provided a clear warning to the policymakers a few years ago during his testimony to the House of Commons.
