Devastating to hear of the closure of Port Talbot and the uncertainty surrounding British Steel. Thousands of jobs now at risk, including on Teesside, and the loss of steelmaking capabilities in the UK. We have a solution – I hope the Government will work with me to deliver it.

This is an absolute disaster: Britain needs steel more than ever in a dangerous world. As Ben Houchen has said, there was an exciting plan in place before the election to bring steelmaking back to Teesside. The Government has got this negotiation wrong and needs to respond.
