Childhood moth finally found!
I’ve waited my whole life to see an Emperor Moth, after seeing a photo of one as a kid and immediately was drawn to them. Heck, I even have an Emperor moth tattooed on my leg! And to finally be able to find one, and photograph it, is wonderful!

Do you know the reason why several moths in the genus Actias have evolved tails? Their main predators are bats who hunt with sonar and these tails are there to bounce back that sonar but since it is behind them it's technically false information!

Here's a Holly Blue chrysalis that will emerge soon 🀞
Next to it is a female Holly Blue, you can tell as it has more dark blue on its upper wing to a male.
I'm guessing it will be a female. 😁

It felt almost Spring-like for a short period this morning, something not lost on the insects who came out in good numbers. The odd butterfly around, this Green-veined White (Pieris napi) one of the few I managed to get close to.
