For 🐻 Boyka, we can undoubtedly confirm that she loves eating melons. 🍈 Don't be fooled by her appearance, she is an extremely agile bear. And despite having surgery on her back right paw she can easily climb a tree especially if there is food there.

Many animals in our care had to endure incredible hardships during their lives. 🐻 Dana for instance, was abused as a “dancing bear” in Bulgaria for many years, forced to wear a ring💔. Happily, she was rescued in November 2003.

🇬🇧 Ex-dancing bear 🐻 Rada is 33-years-old and arrived at BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa in June, 2006. Before Rada arrived in the sanctuary she had never been able to hibernate – or follow any other natural behaviour, typical to bears. 📷 архив/ archive

FOUR PAWS and Brigitte Bardot’ s team rescued bear Monti from a hotel in 2010. He was weighting just 50-60 kg when he was rescued, but even then he was playing with a long stick, bigger and heavier than him. Now Monti is 16-year-old, but this is still him favourite entertainment.

🐻 Marinka is 30 years old now and was rescued in November 2005. She is one of the most skilful and cleverest inhabitants of BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa. She takes advantage of every enrichment that our bear keepers make for her and the other bears in her enclosure.

When the weather is warm and sunny ☀️, there is only one place we know for sure Riku would be, and that is his fresh pool! 💦 Inhabitant of BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa🌳 since 2017, he has been flourishing and enjoying life to the fullest ever since.

The bear Riku was rescued from a life filled with constant misery and suffering. He was found in a small shed, near his “owner’s” house, in a small mountain village in Albania. Riku had repeatedly tried to break out of the chains he was tied to. He was rescued in 2017.

Brown bears🐻 may look like very clumsy animals who cannot keep their balance, but have a look at bear Dana. She is helping herself during feeding with her front paws. If you look carefully, you will notice a carrot 🥕between her paws.

GB 📢 Important information for everyone planning to visit BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa tomorrow. 🐻 On 04.09.2025, as an exception, BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa 🌳 will open with adjusted hours – from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM (when the last tour of the day begins).
