Amwell NR; Cattle Egret from viewpoint, White Stork curently circling distantly to North, otherwise very quiet!

Presumed Kumlien's Gull (probably 3rd winter) at Amwell NR this evening, found by Alan Harris , in the field we were worried that it seemed the same size as a Herring Gull and could be a leucistic Herring, but surely this is a Kumlien's? Photo by Phil Ball (mine were crap!)

Kingsmead (Herts); juvenile Ruff on Parkmead flood - viewed from bank of New River cut.

White-legged Damselflies at 2 places (River Lee & New River) at Kingsmead (Herts) today was a pleasant surprise. Never seen one here before (though there are 1 or 2 previous records).

Amwell NR; male Pintail from view point. Incidentally, currently 'celebrating' 50 years since my first visit to the site in January 1973! Its been OK, but hoping the next 50 are a bit better.

This leucistic/albino Common Gull was in fields near Wallington, Herts, this morning - not quite the 'white-winger' that inland birders hope for!

Baldock (Herts); Black Redstart by model aircraft runway on minor road to Quickswood, perching on traffic cones on south side of hanger.

Kingsmead; 1 Redstart & 1 Whinchat on fence around scrubby compound next to Parkmead flood (Hertford end).

Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura pumilio) at Kingsmead (Hertfordshire) today: as far as I can ascertain the only previous county record was in 1948

Currently seeing some nice dragonflies in Finland: Dark Whiteface (Leucorrhinia albifrons), Green Snaketail (Ophiogomphus cecilia), Lilypad Whiteface (Leucorrhinia caudalis) & Yellow-spotted Emerald (Somatochlora flavomaculata).

White Admiral at Amwell NR this morning (BOC shot) - by the wooden bridge over the Lea near Hollycross Pit (a site first for me).
