A haven for wildlife and a favourite with nature-lovers, walkers and cyclists, this waterway runs for 35 miles with 6 locks. Formed in the 19th century it was a key industrial corridor for coal and iron.

Growing on decaying sticks and branches on damp woodland floor, the scarlet elf cup is easy to spot with its bright vivid red colour 🔴
