Alles neu macht der Mai 🇩🇪
May makes all things new.

For today's celebrations, Germans drink Maibock (may beer) and cocktails flavored with Waldmeister (sweet woodruff).

The latter is also used to bake Waldmeistertorte—a festive cake with the taste of Spring.

Happy !

Dundee Cake 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is an orange-flavored fruit cake, created at the end of the 18th century by Janet Keiller to use up surplus orange peel from marmalade making.

The almonds, sherry, raisins, & oranges were imported from Spain at the city's port.

Fancy a slice with a cup of tea?

I tried making the Hungarian Melange, and it was delicious!

I'll add the tutorial to my pogácsa video that's coming out next week. ☕️

Would you stop at the 'Town of Good Bread?'

San Cristobo de Cea 🇪🇸 is known for its 13th-century sourdough recipe. Lying along a pilgrimage route, the village's Cistercian monastery became famous for this loaf.

It looks simple, but no outsider has successfully recreated it!

Kvæfjordkake, also known as Verdens beste ('the world's best'), was voted as Norway's 🇳🇴 national cake in 2002.

It's made up of a cake sponge baked with meringue and almonds on top, and then layered with custard and whipped cream.

Does it sound good to you?

Make sure you didn't miss last week's video for these Latvian raspberry slices! They're simple, gorgeous, and have quite an obscure history.

I have two video series in mind that I would like to do. Vote below and let me know if either interest you!

(Polls only allow me so many characters to write, so the second option should say 'the bakes and coffee drinks of traditional European coffeehouses')

In Hungary 🇭🇺 pogácsa are sold at most bakeries and subway stations.

Made from flaky, yeasted dough, they can be made sweet or savory. Cheese or pork cracklings are some favorite additions.

Would you try them?

Two layers of shortbread sandwiched together with raspberry jam and topped with icing make up this Latvian 🇱🇻 Alexander Cake.

The origins of this cake are a bit obscure, as this is also enjoyed by the Finns, Danes, & beyond.

Have you ever had a slice of an English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Bakewell tart?

A shortcrust pastry filled with jam & frangipane, this is a variation on the pudding of the same name from the town of Bakewell.

Shockingly, I've never tried it before. I should remedy that sooner rather than later!
