Kudos to State Farm for being transparent with the public around property insurance challenges, and for shining a light on the myriad problems in the California market that can be fixed with regulatory modernization. newsroom.statefarm.com/state-farm-in-…

The best evidence that auto insurance is not a commodity - at least on the supplier side - may be the repeated failures on the OEM side, even when bringing in experienced auto insurance talent to lead same. It's one reason Progressive doesn't build cars! pandcspecialist.com/c/4650464/6183…

We are only going to see more and more of this until the regulatory bodies are reformed, especially in places like CA and NY. commercial.pandcspecialist.com/c/4661114/6209…

Truth-seekers take feedback from nature (planes have to fly), free markets (customers have to buy), or competition (militaries have to win). Consensus-seekers take feedback from people (actors want fans, academics want honors, politicians want votes, journalists want status).

How much does having data matter in the insurance world? For sure, some. GM insurance - now in 14 states at an annualized DWP rate of just ~$40M & unprofitable. It's hard to beat the incumbents, and maybe even harder for an elephant to do so than for a unicorn.

If you're concerned that taking action internationally means foreigners living in your country will do harm, that should influence your domestic policies, not your foreign policy.
