The film Bending the Arc focuses on the work that launched Partners In Health in 1987 in #Haiti. It's now a global health organization fighting injustice in health care by bringing modern medicine and science to some of the most impoverished communities in the world. (1/2)
What I like about Partners In Health is that they focus on those who have been denied quality health care because of historic systems of power and neglect. In many ways, I'm reminded of đź’™#MarkedByCovid #FBLC and our commitment to those who have been cut out of quality care during the pandemic. (2/2)
With ~17,000 community health, support, nurses, & Drs, Partners In Health treats ppl for basically everything from malnutrition to #cancer. Bending the Arc follows the journey of its co-founders on their mission to save lives in Haiti which evolved into a #HealthEquity global mission.
So, let's talk about #HealthEquity. Partners In Health co-founder Dr. Paul Farmer, who is a focal point of @BTAFilm, has said "The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world." I couldn't agree more and we are seeing this play out with #COVID (1/4)
#HealthEquity: ENORMOUS chasms exist in the #USA when it comes to health outcomes. #COVID has exposed that there are #TwoAmericas when it comes to health care. One for the Haves and one for the Have Nots. (1/2) Partners In Health @BTAFilm đź’™#MarkedByCovid #FBLC
What I LOVE about Partners In Health, & is uplifted in @BTAFilm, is the focus on a community-based approach to care. Meaning, paying, employing, training, & supporting local people to help their neighbors follow through on treatment. đź’™#MarkedByCovid #FBLC is working 4 a US-based #PublicHealthJobCorps
The film @BTAFilm and Partners In Health remind me so much of the work we're taking on with đź’™#MarkedByCovid #FBLC: it's built on love and community. Going through hard times together and sticking with it. It's about hope and rejecting despair and cynicism.
The best moment in @BTAFilm Partners In Health Dr. Farmer shares the secret to their initial success in #Haiti: TAKING THE BLAME off of the PATIENTS and putting it on the SYSTEM. They focused on the system and everyone got better. đź’™#MarkedByCovid #FBLC firmly believes the same for #COVID. (1/4)
