It's been a blast getting to hear so many fantastic parasitology talks at #PiP2024 in Auckland whilst also getting a chance to share my work using nanopore-seq for the comprehensive characterisation of the nemabiome from humans, dogs & other animals! #nanopore Aust Soc for Para 🏃🐶🧬🪱
Had an absolute blast being part of the British Association for Veterinary Parasitology committee over the last 3 years. Looking forward to seeing it go from strength to strength and thanks to everyone for this beauty which is in pride of place on my fridge!
Day1 at the British Society for Parasitology Autumn session highlighs MGS (not yet named as a priority), #FGSchisto (finally growing recognition of importance) & complexities around #epidemiology. All aspects need to be tackled for sustainable elimination & holistic public health. #BeatNTDs
Great to see the many Posters presented at the British Society for Parasitology Session on MGS, #FGSchisto, #Schistosome hybridisation, assay development, the use of AI in case detection & more. #BeatNTDs
Following the panel discussion, we move onto the Q&A on Male Genital #Schistosomiasis with speakers, Dr Dr Sekeleghe Kayuni, Russell Stothard, Lucas Cunningham & Dr Silvia Roure Fundació Lluita contra les Infeccions at the British Society for Parasitology Autumn Meeting, followed by poster presentations on various aspects of MGS.
🚨 #Parasitology postdoc available 🚨 - Postdoctoral Research Associate role for 3 years at University of York - Working in the lab of Dr Mathieu Cayla on the characterisation of signalling pathways in #Trypanosoma brucei - Details available at tinyurl.com/y55cfany
Moving onto #FGschisto at the British Society for Parasitology Autumn Session, we look at gaps in knowledge, funding & resourcing, diagnostics, & more, before looking at case studies from Malawi🇲🇼, Zambia 🇿🇲& Cameroon🇨🇲. #Schistosomiasis #BeatNTDs @
Sample➡️result in 1 hr - in #FGSchisto #diagnostics? Amaya Bustinduy shares at the British Society for Parasitology the work behind the Zipime Weka Schista Study, using the FGS Atlas, Field Mini-lab, a 3D self-sampling model, AI image recognition & more to #BeatSchisto. lshtm.ac.uk/research/centr…
Day2 at the British Society for Parasitology kicks off w a highlight on #Diagnostics. First we hear from Janelisa Musaya, Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme on #FGSchisto diagnostics options & dilemmas. 🔬Microscopy vs. Colposcopy vs PC vs Molecular 🧫Urine vs biopsy vs CVL vs self-testing vs menstrual🩸 #BeatNTDs
Next we hear about the point-of-care molecular #diagnosis of #FGSchisto. Bonnie Webster shares current progress & aspirations, fr the REASSURED criteria, to molecular #diagnostics, sensitive & specific PoC testing & 🌉 the gap btw the lab & implementation in endemic setting🗺️
Next at British Society for Parasitology we hear fr Peter Leutscher, Aalborg University on experiences of field #diagnostics of #FGSchisto & MGS from Madagascar studies, moving beyond invasive biopsies towards biomarkers, looking at treatment effectiveness & protocols #BeatNTDs #Schistosomiasis
British Society for Parasitology we are delighted to host Prof Peter Leutscher today and present on 30 years of study on MGS & FGS in Madagascar and Africa Global Schistosomiasis Alliance Centre for Neglected Tropical Diseases (CNTD)
Highlighting experiences fr Nigeria, Oluwole Akinola @sightsavers shares #FGSchisto issues in 🇳🇬 & their response, incl FGS #HealthWorkers training, treatment pathway for patients at-risk of #Schistosomiasis, & implementation and integration into #SRHR & #PrimaryCare services.
Day2 at the British Society for Parasitology Autumn Session is getting excited. In the second session, we'll hear about #FGSchisto associated morbidities, incl exploring gender & equity issues for FGS & MGS; the work on mainstreaming FGS & more.
Powerful words from Margaret Gyapong that highlight global commitments to ensure progress towards elimination of NTDs - and how FGS and MGS is part of this vision British Society for Parasitology COUNTDOWNonNTDS Global Schistosomiasis Alliance
Prof Margaret Gyapong applies a #gender and #equity lens to genital #schistosomiasis and how gender, social and environmentalal determinants impact exposure, disease and access to healthcare. Lets #LeaveNoOneBehind ! ##BeatNTDs British Society for Parasitology
The British Society for Parasitology Symposium will act as the first catalyst theme for a special issue of ParasitologyJnl see cambridge.org/core/journals/… to discuss and to think more how parasites influence human health and disease
Had a great time presenting my poster at the British Society for Parasitology Autumn symposium hosted at Natural History Museum 🔬👩🏽🔬🪱🐚
A fantastic couple of days at the British Society for Parasitology Autumn symposium highlighting male and female genital schistosomiasis. Hearing about the complexities of diagnostics and treatment of FGS/MGS really has been inspiring. Thank you to BSP for the opportunity to present my work!
