"Clusters & mirages: cataloguing stellar aggregates in the #MilkyWay" arxiv.org/abs/1911.07075 by #GaiaMission cluster dream team Tristan Cantat-Gaudin & @frediferente "The only confirmed cluster located further than 500 pc away from the Galactic plane within the Solar circle is NGC 6791"
A team of computer scientists are using Gaia-derived data and a supercharged travelling salesman algorithm called Concorde to compute minimal star routes. (See: math.uwaterloo.ca/tsp/star/index…). They've included my data set of luminous stars (abs. mag. < -2) here: math.uwaterloo.ca/tsp/star/kj378…
Using methods from biology, we use the chemical DNA of 78 stars in the Solar Neighbourhood to construct an evolutionary tree. The tree structure reflects the ages and dynamical properties of the stars, showing its potential for interpreting high-dimensional chemical DNA. Paula Jofre
Great article on one of the lesser known products of the Gaia Mission - a precise map of quasers, the ultraluminous cores of distant galaxies.(Source: Ronald Drimmel 🇺🇦) sciencemag.org/news/2020/11/p…

In case you need a little perspective today --> ESA Gaia released the most precise 3D map of the Milky Way ever made. Looks like @GaiaSky_Dev let's you check out this #gaiaEDR3 data in #VR too. Crazy cool. Via Neel V. Patel MIT Technology Review technologyreview.com/2020/12/03/101…
Join us for a (virtual) day of all things Milky Way modelling at EAS Annual Meeting 2021 on the 2nd July, lead by Francesca Fragkoudi and @frediferente - should be a good one!
Early Career Astronomers session EAS Annual Meeting We now looking for speakers and particularly love to hear from astronomers from traditionally marginalized backgrounds and underrepresented groups. Contact as at [email protected] or through the EAS abstract portal until 2nd March
