Chris Sale (16-3, 2.46 ERA) is certainly the steal of the winter for Atlanta, who not only will win the NL Cy Young award but receive top-10 MVP votes. He pitches 7 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts in Atlanta’s 3-0 victory over Colorado.

The Oakland A's, with a walk-off victory against the Seattle Mariners, are now 31-22 since July 1. It's the 2nd-best record in the AL behind only the Houston Astros (33-22). Take a bow, manager Mark Kotsay.

It happened, it really happened. The White Sox win! Clip and save: White Sox 8, Orioles 1. It's the White Sox's first victory since Aug. 21, snapping 12-game losing streak, and only their 5th victory since the All-Star break. They are now 32-109.

The red-hot Mets sweep the Red Sox, win 8-3 for their 7th consecutive victory, and stay within 1/2 game of Atlanta (who beats Colorado) for the third and final NL wild-card berth. The Mets and Atlanta play Sept. 24-26 in Atlanta the final week of the season.

The Texas Rangers, with a 10-2 lead over the Yankees in the 9th inning and two outs with no one on base, walked 3 consecutive batters, gave up a grand slam, and two more singles. The Rangers hang on for 10-6 victory with Giancarlo Stanton robbed of a 3-run HR to end the game.

Just a few hours after Cubs starter Shota Imanaga was pulled after 7 innings with a no-hitter .... Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen departs after 6 innings with a no-hitter.

There have been just three individual no-hitters this season: Blake Snell of the Giants, Dylan Cease of the Padres and Ronel Blanco of the Astros.

Tough times in Chicago. The Chicago White Sox let go revered veteran pro scout Billy Scherer Wednesday along with veteran pro scouts Joe Siers, Bruce Benedict, and Duraka Shaheed. Shaheed officially left during the season.

Oh, where have you gone, Edwin Jackson? Pitchers have been pulled out of games with a no-hitter (through at least six innings) 10 times this season. Twice last night. Jackson threw a 149-pitch no-hitter in 2010 for the Arizona Diamondbacks under manager A.J. Hinch.

The White Sox also dismissed Marco Paddy, who was in charge of their international operations. So five scouts were let go Wednesday, which included Duraka Shaheed, who remained with the White Sox the entire season and in the organization for 21 years.
