Thanks for the push. BRAIN has provided critical research funds that move our field forward. I have contacted my representative (Adam Schiff) and my senators (@SenAlexPadilla, Senator Laphonza Butler). Can funding be restored? Christopher Rozell thanks for your leadership on this! Please RT!

It was a tremendous privilege to spend some time in DC telling our elected officials about the impact of our BRAIN Initiative project on depression DBS and stressing the critical need for robust research funding.

Really surprised and worried by this, especially because we've seen unparalleled growth on the industry side of things, with more funding, FDA approvals, and clinical trials underway now more than ever. If anything, I would have thought the budget would have increased.

That being said, there are ways individuals can be a lever for change. The lowest effort way to do this is write your congressional representatives. Some did note to us that they had noticed an uptick in constituent communications on BRAIN. Check this 🧵

I believe the brain initiative was about to attack the really important question, ie. what is the function of all of those cell types in the awake brain that we have discovered. Stopping now would be a major missed opportunity.

Many scientists here have pointed out BRAIN has supercharged progress in neuroscience, but it also benefits the US economy. Many BRAIN initiative trainees are now working in innovative tech in industry. This is a very effective way to spend tax money to generate GDP growth.

米国NIH BRAIN Initiativeの今年度予算が40%減ったと。2025年でBRAINも終わるのだと思う。欧州Human Brain Projectも終わったし、今後脳科学のビッグプロジェクトはどこに向かうのだろう。

Urgent call to the American public and neuroscience advocates to lobby hard against the 40% cut in NIH Brain Initiative Funding. Spread the word and get active! Parkinson and Alzheimer’s as well as neurodegeneration diseases will be dramatically affected.

The race to cure neurological conditions just got longer. Contact your Senators and Representatives and let them know that the sooner we can cure neurological conditions the sooner healthcare costs will decrease and when peoples quality of life improves the US GDP increases.

This is devastating news that will hamper important advancements in neuroscience research and ultimately affect millions of people living with debilitating neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions.

This will significantly impede many top labs producing high-impact work, and greatly reduce opportunities available to new labs that are at the cutting edge of brain research. Especially in Pittsburgh, where amazing brain research is happening at Pitt and CMU. John Fetterman

A 40% cut to the BRAIN Initiative seems like the wrong move. This important program funded neuromodulation work that we are translating to humans and the projects provided training for multiple scientists in my group who now contribute to health care in industry and academics
