Anyone looking at our live seismic data from today (earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/helicorder/hel…) and wondering what's happening this mornings 6.7Mw earthquake in Panama is clearly visible on almost all stations, shown here arriving on our stations in England, Scotland and the Channel islands.

We've detected a 2.4ML earthquake near Wigan, Greater Manchester, this afternoon. No felt reports so far. Full details on our website (earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/earthquakes/re…) where felt reports can also be left. image shows the arrivals on nearby BGS stations.

Today we’ve started construction of our newest permanent station, BEDF in Suffolk. This is the cement pour for the base of the vault.

To put today's 3.8ML earthquake in Shropshire into historical context this map shows previous earthquake activity in the area.

Seismometers that we deployed last week near Pitlochry, Perthshire and Tarland, Aberdeenshire as part of the project picked up the waves that had travelled through the Earth from the M6.8 #earthquake in Argentina yesterday, over 10,000km away! BGSseismology

A second real time temporary station as part PICTS going in, this one near Tarland, Aberdeenshire.

This is a new temporary station we’ve deployed east of Pitlochry as part of PICTS. The data is already coming into our servers, but it may take a few days before it shows up on our website.

Anyone looking with confusion at our station data today in the very long period (earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/helicorder/hel…) you're seeing this mornings Nicaragua earthquake (6.7Mw) as it arrives across the UK.

We’re in Surrey this week removing stations GATW, HORS, STAN and RUSH. Station BRDL will become a permanent station. This small dense array was used to study the Newdigate earthquake swarm of 2018, with its removal delayed by COVID.
