On this day in 1984, my mother Prabha, seen here on assignment in Bihar, died while at the peak of her career. India’s first woman war correspondent, she reported the 1965 war from the frontline and broke a zillion other barriers and formed me and shaped me deeply

My father, Speedy Dutt to friends, raised my sister and I to be progressive, ferociously independent women and never shackled us, knowing that’s what my mother would have wished for us above all other things

On my mum’s death anniversary, I’d like to announce two Prizes in a tribute to my parents: The Prabha Dutt Prize for Journalism & the Satya (SP Dutt) Prize for Science & Innovation (his first love). Annual awards of 1 Lakh rupees each. More details soon & on email below.
