To the Biden admin's credit, it did previously withhold arms from Saudi Arabia b/c KSA was using US bombs to attack civilians.

By the twisted logic below, the US should be arming Assad to outcompete Russia.

US has standards on the books and should enforce them for all states.

Let's hope the administration is able to head off discrediting and inordinate mandatory sanctions proposed by some in Congress.

Nearly 8 months in, not a single Israeli security official, present or former, can explain how the army was absent for so many hours on October 7, how entire areas were abandoned for so long.

Again raising the question of whether US armed forces have been introduced into hostilities or a situation of imminent hostilities under the War Powers Resolution, given that there is still very much a war in Gaza.

The US comes to the defense of Gallant after he is accused of law of war violations by the ICC prosecutor.

Gallant responds by authorizing actions in the West Bank the US government regards as law of violations (ie Art 49(6) GCIV).

It is one thing to meet with a foreign leader despite the fact they have been accused of war crimes.

That is the unfortunate reality of diplomacy.

It is a very different matter to meet with a foreign leader because they have been accused of war crimes.

Important analysis from my former State Department colleague Todd Buchwald on the U.S. response to the ICC warrant application.

Occasional reminder that the US recognized Kosovo’s statehood without giving Serbia a veto.

Relevant to ongoing developments relating to the recognition of Palestine.

Quite the military campaign that produces these sorts of results and yields potential ICC arrest warrants against military and political leaders for atrocities.

Brilliant idea to enable this bloody, destabilizing debacle through virtually unconditional military support.

“The ICC is not making some claim of equivalence, but is in fact holding both sides in this current war to the same standard. Yes, democratically elected officials can commit war crimes. We can’t only apply international law when it’s convenient.” - Bernie Sanders

We urge Congressional leaders not to look to score political points by attacking the Court and its legitimate place in the international legal order. Calls to penalize or intimidate ICC officials do not serve U.S. interests in a stable world order rooted in the rule of law.

Follows the ICC prosecutor requesting arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare.

To which the US Congress responded with threats of sanctions against the ICC and a possible invitation for Netanyahu to speak.

Will they invite anyone else the ICC prosecutor has requested an arrest warrant against for war crimes or crimes against humanity?

Maybe Putin, Omar al Bashir, or Joseph Kony can join as well.

Relevant to whether Israel is violating US and international law as well as the allegation from the ICC prosecutor that Israeli officials are using starvation as a method of warfare.

The fact that the ICC prosecutor has alleged Israeli leaders committed the war crime of 'intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population' in Gaza should bear on decisions on sending more bombs to Israel even apart from US views on ICC involvement in this conflict.

Pleased to speak with Matt Galloway on The Current on CBC Radio this morning about the ICC prosecutor's application for arrest warrants against Hamas leaders and Israeli officials and the response by the US government.

Plenty of distortions in this The Wall Street Journal op-ed, but worth noting in particular that the law of war does in fact apply both to 'the death squad and the bomber pilot.'

That's not equivalency, but application of the law to all parties to a conflict.
