This is so incredibly absurd and infuriating. Lack of beds are a problem, sure. But the bigger problem is that there isn't enough staff to cover the current capacity, leading to constant lockdowns and atrocious, inhumane conditions. More beds will just make it worse.

Considering the fact that only approx 14 percent of those detained in Ontario’s correctional facilities have been found guilty, perhaps “offender” isn’t the right term here. Giving people timely and reasonable bail hearings will do 10x more to protect the public.
