We need a better term for “emotionally based school avoidance”. Although better than “refusal” it still gaslights the child for what is often a rational response to a hostile environment. Locating the problem in the child’s emotions is also a barrier to addressing the hostility

Süicide is one of the top killers of Autistic People.

Autistic people who mask (camouflaged their Autistic traits) are “show more signs of anxiety and depression, and the strategy may even been linked to an increase in suicidal behaviours”

In four & a half years of primary school, all my autistic daughter learnt was that she could not be herself, that she had to 'force' her brain to work to their way of working as a neurotypical & mask how it affected her. She's grown up thinking she's not a fit for this world.
