As Sean says about these wonderful Eucalyptus trees:
'Just enjoy the lot'

So, for the box of Liquorice Allsorts?
Just eat the lot!

Short thread on the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation , which brings a huge amount of heat to the northern Atlantic.
If it slows, the region west of Britain cools. And the Gulf Stream moves closer to the US coast, causing warming there.
Both are already happening,

Such a thoughtful and perceptive piece of writing about the important role music plays in connecting people, providing hope, helping us to explore emotions and contributing to peace. I think everyone should read it (and the earlier parts 1 and 2 too).

Just received delivery of this 'eco-friendly' washing up brush! It comes with extra replacement heads. The bristles are made of sisal. I had something like this many years ago but its bristles were rather poor and didn't last very well, so I hope this new one will be better...

This is terrifying.

Not the headline... I'm familiar with the science. No, what's terrifying is how far I had to dig through my news notifications to find this story.

What's terrifying is that this headline is not on every social media platform.

Interesting time just now in a wood in East Lothian, SE Scotland: the tiny liverwort Microlejeunea ulicina on birch (first record of it in this county), and the moss Ulota calvescens on two willows (second record for the county; I found the first one just two weeks ago).

This is deeply concerning news, and could have serious implications for the future of Scotland’s population of Red Squirrels.

If you live in the Dunfermline area, please follow Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels's advice and bring in any garden or woodland feeders, and report any sightings at

A thread from @SteB777explaining how a modern exploitative culture of European origin lies behind the damage we’ve done to the environment.

Society/governments/leaders should focus much more on the environment & biodiversity instead of prioritising our short term material gain.

People are worried and want to do something about climate change, but 99% of the advice around is focused on lifestyle and consumer decisions

This is not just minimally effective for change, but also disempowering and demotivating

Nice to find the moss Ulota calvescens today on a young oak in the Lammermuir Hills, SE Scotland. Seems to be the first record of it in E Lothian & the easternmost in Scotland except for an old record from Shetland. This western species has expanded its range eastwards recently.

No way would a golf course at Coul Links be a necessity for the Highlands. It would be a major loss of nature at a UK level. Losses of nature are losses for humans too. Unfortunately, many people just don’t see our obvious connection with and dependency on the rest of nature.

Looking at liverworts today in West Lothian, Scotland, I found a patch of the tiny oceanic Colura calyptrifolia among many scattered thalli of Metzgeria violacea on a plastic tree tube. The same species were also on coniferous and broadleaved trees in the vicinity.
