If 200 children went missing from school & their families, it would be headline news. There’d be a public appeal & child rescue alert. But when 200 asylum-seeking children go missing from hotels (some of them abducted off the street & bundled into cars) it barely makes the news.

Autistic people may immediately say “no” or become distressed when a change of plan is suggested, regardless of whether it’s objectively better/necessary. We aren’t tying to be difficult; our brain has perceived a threat and gone into survival mode. This is the “fight” response.

We need to become the kind of church where, if an adult man says that they find a 12-year-old’s developing body to be a stumbling block-- we stop handing the 12-year-old a sweater, and we start freaking out at the adult man.
