Another great example Hotel and Gaming Trades Council fighting for working families. Unemployment benefits should be a short term safety net to get people through tough times. But at less than the minimum wage that net has more holes than Swiss cheese and too many people are falling into poverty.

Being unemployed shouldn’t mean falling into poverty nor should union workers be unfairly punished for exercising their right to fair labor standards. Albany has the means, motive (read the op-ed) and opportunity to address this problem.

We need to 1) eliminate the unfair unemployment penalty on striking workers, and 2) increase benefits. $504/week is below minimum wage wage and just doesn’t cut it!
