Truly delighted that our (co-edited with Ralf Emmers) @AJIA Special Issue on ‘Coalition-Building and the Politics of Hegemonic Ordering in the Indo-Pacific’ is now out (Vol 79, Issue 4), with many articles Open Access!  tandfonline.com/toc/caji20/79/4

The Special Issue posits that the US and China are seeking to establish coalitional hegemonies across multiple and often overlapping legitimating constituencies in the Indo-Pacific. We pose 4 research questions to examine the nature, extent & effects of their coalition-building:

How are the US & China engaging in coalition-building in the Indo-Pacific? What is the scale & evolution of these coalition-building projects? How have regional middle powers responded? What are the implications for regional alignments in the Indo-Pacific?
