Brodie Gillieatt a PhD student from University of Sydney delivered a very interesting talk on the link between heavy metals and the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in the environment. Truly compelling compelling research- we are sure it will be wonderful thesis!

Estuaries are important ecosystems, however, they are particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic stressors. Apoorva Prabhu 🌊 looked at the impact of flooding. Results show that the prokaryotic community took approximately 4 months to return to pre-flood conditions!

Belinda Chapman and Michelle Bull from QuantalBioscience kicked off our next session, Methods and Approaches to Microbial Ecology. Fantastic to hear about their innovative program, the Zoo of Poo, which is empowering school students to dive into the world of microbial ecology!
