Our FLEX rover’s design has been on quite a journey since a small team designed the first version in 2020. Despite numerous adjustments and improvements, you can still see the original core design in the current iteration! Scroll through to follow FLEX's evolution.

Many NASA astronauts have been crucial to testing the human factors of our rover design. Incorporating feedback from people with experience operating for many hours in space suits here on Earth and in space, and with the potential to drive FLEX on the lunar surface, is invaluable

šŸŒ” This might not be the highest quality picture of the Moon ever taken, but it’s a very important one for our FLIP rover. This is the first image taken by FLIP’s star tracker, which is used to help the rover figure out its vehicle orientation and the direction it's facing.

56 years ago today, humans stepped foot on the Moon for the first time. Apollo 11 paved the way for the lunar missions that followed, including Apollo 15, which carried the Lunar Roving Vehicle to the Moon. We look forward to building on this lunar legacy with our FLEX rover.

The lunar surface awaits. šŸŒ” By first sending our intrepid FLIP rover to the Moon as a technology demonstration mission, the Astrolab team will better understand how our large-scale FLEX rover's hardware and software will operate in the harsh environment of space.

We're getting our wheels in the dirt (or sand) whenever we can! Astrolab is focused on rapid testing and iteration, and our FLIP test vehicle is no exception. It's being examined in our cleanroom, as well as outside in our sandbox. Exciting tests are coming in August. Stay tuned!
