Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire. Begin in 1480 for William, Lord Hastings: a W and h can be seen in the brick patterning above the arch of the gatehouse. Presently occupied by Canada geese, honking like some feathery klaxon mafia.

This little chest has been sitting quietly in Haconby church in Lincolnshire since the mid-fourteenth century. It is an exquisite example of medieval carved workmanship decorated with traceried panels and dragons.

From my visits I can say Stow and Coates by Stow are special places that stay with you. If you're free tomorrow, do join these tours.
