What a difference a year makes.

Visited this same winery two days ago. (In shorts this time — thanks, Texas!)

Today, I invoiced more freelance work for a single day than I did in the entire month of March 2023.

Aggregation is the name of the “news” game anymore for many, many outlets and when you’re forced to bounce from one to another, adhering to ever-changing “strategies” is exhausting and no way to build a “journalism career” or whatever we’re calling ***all of this***

A year ago, I got laid off. It was unfair, unexpected, and so awful that I cried in a booth at Waffle House without a single idea about how to move forward. Today, I have enough freelance work to keep me busy, but also have time to go to the library. Do with that what you will.

So have we been saying disheartened/disheartening all along and I just never noticed or …?

I told my son’s teacher today that I was disheartened by a situation. I said it out loud and I just… I don’t ever remember doing that before. But I truly see it everywhere now.
