Now is the time to get ready. Make sure you have enough non-perishable food, water, and medication for at LEAST 3 days. Break out the warm clothing and blankets. Check that your first aid kit is stocked. Charge your phone and check for wireless emergency alerts.

The best advice is DON’T drive unless you absolutely must during any winter storm. If you must drive, always remember to clean off your vehicle, drive slowly, avoid using cruise control, and leave extra distance between you and other vehicles.

Now is the time to ensure your building’s sprinkler system is protected. *Maintain a min. temp. of 40 degrees in areas with sprinkler systems. *Be prepared to conduct a fire watch if a system freezes. *Buildings are not permitted to turn off or drain sprinkler systems.

It’s something no one plans on, but if you are caught out in a winter storm, these are some important tips to remember. Find shelter, cover exposed body parts, melt snow for drinking water if necessary, and move limbs, fingers, and toes vigorously to keep warm.

After the storm, if the power is out, here are some things you can do. Be careful with heat sources; use your portable generator safely, only outside, at least 20 feet away from the home; and check on your neighbors.
