The VPA RC spent the past three days reviewing well over 500 standards for K-12 Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre & Visual Arts. This was a massive undertaking made successful by the amazing, student-focused work of the AP & the insights & knowledge of the folks in the zoom grid!

Thank you to the Ky Arts Council for inviting me to talk about the VPA Standards Review and Revision process and to give details about the very important public comment portion which is coming up SOON!

This zoom snapshot represents a sampling of Arts educators from across the Commonwealth! Some received lots of snow this week & some still have none, but they all spent the past three days glued to their screens to finalize big portions of the VPA review and revision process!

When the weather moves your 3-day in-person mtgs to the virtual world, you become real thankful for the perseverance of the Media Arts, Music & Visual Arts standards review & revision committee members!

In my research to develop an Indigenous Art lesson, I was able to include a local Mohawk artist. For years I shared this w/ students & then teachers as I highlighted the Connecting standards. Today, Susan Mullins was in the room as I shared the lesson she inspired! Ky Arts Council

Now on KET: Kelsey Starks hosts a new KET forum about a new ‘science-based reading’ approach, how it will be implemented, and what this means for Kentucky’s students and schools.

We had a great time this morning exploring KET Super Saturday! I particularly loved talking with community partners in the arts and the kids loved all the activity booths. They left with smiles, a swag bag and even a new book! Thanks for a great time! Steve Greene
