Some people call me Judge. Some people call me Dad. But the title that really keeps me humble? Boo Boo. That’s what my grandkids call me-and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, pops, papas, paw paws, father figures, and yes… the Boo Boos.

It says a lot about the state of our city that we’re calling it “progress” when just half of our people don’t feel afraid for their physical safety every day. That’s not progress—that’s a crisis.

It’s time for new leadership that respects our culture, serves our people and is all about solutions.

Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom, and to honor those who fought for it through the law. I stand on the shoulders of Black lawyers from New Orleans like Louis Martinet, who helped found the Plessy v. Ferguson challenge and used his voice to fight injustice.

Thank you to everyone who started their Juneteenth morning with us over coffee and community. It meant so much to gather in reflection and celebration—honoring the legacy of those who paved the way and recommitting ourselves to the work ahead. #Juneteenth
