First graders learning implied texture vs. actual texture with these adorable winter birds!

6th grade Zentangle animals in progress! The art of zentangle uses complex patterns as a way to enter a calm, “meditative” mindset. Students are blowing me away with their creative compositions and use of negative space in the background! SM School District

Kindergarten artists first drew their owl sculpture from observation, then made a plan of how they wanted to color their owl! They did such a great job following their plans! Love how hard they worked on these ❤️

One of my favorite projects of the year! 6th graders studied coil pots made in the southwestern region of the United States, as well as different breeds of cacti. They constructed their own variation of a coil pot, then created a cactus (or several!) to be “planted” inside!

Stay tuned for some fun, at-home art lessons and activities for all ages! I know this situation is not ideal (for anyone!) however one thing is for sure- creativity has soothing power, and I will never stop sharing that with my students! 🌈 #smsd

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in the art room! Belinder students have been creating vibrant Papel Picado (perforated paper) Serape Blankets, and monarch butterflies inspired by the book, Senorita Mariposa! SM School District

Students had a blast today during “Chopped: Art Room Edition”! Students had 25 minutes to create a work of art with the supplies in their mystery bag. Then, we presented our projects and awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place! I was blown away by their creativity! SM School District Belinder PTA

5th graders are creating some incredible “Pop Culture Icons!” Students learned about the iconic pop art style, then chose an icon from the past or present. They used color schemes to paint each image! SM School District Steve Yeoman, PhD
