WEB Du Bois wrote that slaves in the antebellum South were often happier and better off than factory workers in the North. Under no circumstances did he think blacks were better off dead than living as slaves in Southern plantations. Only Radical Republicans thought that.

Our enemies are quite ignorant. This one from New Jersey doesn't realize the 13th Amendment was passed eight months after the war was over. He also doesn't know New Jersey still had slave auctions in 1865.
