Thanks L. Felipe Benites for the interest in my talk at #AbSciCon22 #AbSciCon2022. In this talk I discussed my research at SijbrenOttoLab on how the integration of life's main characteristics in one single system can bring us one step closer to de-novo life.

Homochirality is a signature of life, but the origin of that is unclear. Check out our new paper published J. Am. Chem. Soc. in which we showed how chiral amplification can be achieved by chiral selective self-replicators. Congrats to Shuo Yang and Yannick Geiger | @yannickgeiger.bsky.social and other authors
Super stocked for being a part of a work just published Nature Chemistry in which we showed Darwinian evolution outside biology in a system of synthetic self-replicators & arising behaviour analogous to eco-evolutionary dynamics in it. Congrats to SijbrenOttoLab, Kai Liu & all authors.
BREAKING💥Ottogroup was awarded an ERC synergy grant, together with Gonen Ashkenasy and the groups of Eörs Szathmáry and Andrew Griffiths. Greatest thanks to all collaborators, it was a long and winding journey but it paid off!
We have a PhD position on phosphate-driven non-equilibrium assemblies funded from European Research Council (ERC) at FIT - Uni Freiburg Universität Freiburg Freiburg Chemistry Institutes. Deadline for application is 01/08/24. More information can be found here: static1.squarespace.com/static/5fc3928… RT appreciated!
Reactive Martini applied to simulate ring formation inside condensates. Great work from Chris Brasnett in collaboration with the SijbrenOttoLab. Published in Comm. Chem. rdcu.be/dMF8N
Our latest publication is out now. This collaborative effort between Siewert-Jan Marrink group and SijbrenOttoLab explores the dynamics of chemical reactions inside condensates and their potential role in the origin of life. Thanks to all authors specially Chris Brasnett ! nature.com/articles/s4200…
Probe the non-enzymatic macrocyclization reaction of benzene-1,3-dithiol in the presence of peptide condensates by reactive Martini simulations, reported by Siewert-Jan Marrink SijbrenOttoLab Chris Brasnett nature.com/articles/s4200…
Coacervates can accelerate (bio)chemical reactions and direct their outcome. In our new review by Iris Smokers we detail how their unique properties allow them to function as catalytic microcompartments at the origins of life. Have a look here: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
Our latest paper is out in Nature Chemistry! We explored how fueled chemical systems can drive nanoscale self-assembly and motion at the macroscale. Congrats to all authors, SijbrenOttoLab, and Kai Liu! nature.com/articles/s4155…
And the last of 3 SijbrenOttoLab papers within 24h! Biological principles are valid only for biological systems? Don't bet on that. We found synthetic replicators literally dying out when in competition, or coexisting if they have different food preferences. nature.com/articles/s4155…
