Good Us: At least we can agree that pancakes are disgusting. This is deflection - coming back to safer, more agreeable ground. It *is* good - but I think we can do better.

Better Us: I would like to understand your reasons for placing such value on waffles. Perhaps I can also share with you the origin of my own distaste for them. ... or something. I'm not good at this yet, that's why it's a personal challenge. How might you enrich the waffle war?

So... If we supposedly have "gun rights" because something something deterrent for egregiously bad government (among other things)... What would it take for a proponent of such rights to *actually* defy the armed might of the nation?

In other words: I don't believe for an attosecond that the average gun rights supporter would actually have the nerve to defy the military power of the US. And a "rogue" government without backing from the military is not a threat that deserves to be handled with guns.

So if the second amendment apologists want to play the defense-against-tyranny card, they should consider the histories of Afghanistan and Iraq. Countries where we supplied a lot more than just guns. Countries our military turned and flattened when political expediency ran out.

Protection from abuse of power may have been a valid argument in the 1780s. It sure isn't now. Gun advocates are running mighty low on convincing arguments - especially after yet another shooting. Basically, I don't think there *are* good pro-gun arguments at this point.

This is why, for the first time since creating my account here, I am editing my Twitter bio. It's a one word change, but I hope it says a lot more than just that.

Solid show but the acoustics at Neumos aren't exactly great. Also it's trippy to think about why we do certain things at shows... Like encore chants. Rooted in music for entertainment more than for music itself. The emergence of home audio is really weird, historically.

Listening to music as a purely aural experience is pretty new. Traditionally you either helped perform, or also got a stage show.

Desktop... Laptop... Set-top... and for a horrifying but brief stint, palm-top. Why do we describe computing devices in terms of "what thing the computer goes on top of"?

So the Pixel 2 XL is... Well, it's a phone, and I generally dislike phones. Too early to say if I will also dislike this one, but the odds are high.

Mike Lewis (@apochpiq) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It's not like the phone is bad per se, just not all that amazing. Typing on a touch screen is still a miserably dumb experience. I don't know if we will ever get beyond that as long as the current "smartphone" trend continues. #BringBackPhysicalKeyboards
