I've been hearing a few Eastern Olivaceous Warblers in Lesvos, but this one at Kalami was the first that showed well. It's striking how broad the bill is at the base, when you look closely.

Not great photos, but I was delighted to find these two Broad-billed Sandpipers at Kalloni this afternoon. An interesting transitional plumage and the behaviour was notable too - wading up to their bellies in the water.

Photos are often helpful for working out 'ringtail' harriers, like this bird at Kalloni Saltpans today. The 'four-fingered' wing tip of a Hen Harrier is much easier to pick out in these shots than in life, as are the intricate markings on both sides of the wing.

Plenty of other wildlife to enjoy in Lesvos. The rather hefty Starred Agama lizards are sprawled on many a wall or boulder. There's a nice selection of butterflies too, including Black-veined White and Eastern Festoon.

Eastern Subalpine Warbler is quite common in areas of taller scrub in Greece. This one today at the petrified forest was showier than most.

Perhaps the biggest birding attraction in Lesvos is Cinereous Bunting, here on the western edge of its range. This male turned a signpost into a song post along the road to the petrified forest this morning.

Laughing Doves seem to be getting established in Lesvos. This one in Skala Eresou was in its favoured habitat: hanging around outside a supermarket.

Am in Lesvos now and am enjoying regular sightings of Cretzschmar's Bunting. This one was belting out its song this morning.

I had some great views of a pair of Montagu's Harriers at Lake Dystos this morning, although I only got photos of the female.

A few more birds from central Evia over the past couple of days: Cretzschmar's Bunting, Eastern Orphean Warbler, Rüppell's Warbler and Greater Short-toed Lark.

On holiday in Greece. I first saw this Eagle Owl in Evia yesterday evening when it flew overhead as I ordered food at a taverna. This evening, I had closer views.

Sandwich Terns are starting to reappear around Girdle Ness. This was one of two birds flying through the harbour this morning.

Very happy to find this Tree Pipit today in St Fittick's Park, Girdle Ness. A surprisingly rare species here and it's particularly good to see one perched like this.

A few more migrants appeared at Girdle Ness today. After the rain halted, this male Blackcap joined the numerous Chiffchaffs along the sheltered railway embankment at St Fittick's. A very approachable White Wagtail was along the north shore path this evening.

Storm Kathleen raging through Girdle Ness this evening but I was pleased to see my first Bonxie of the year heading north. I think my earliest ever here.

A grey evening at Girdle Ness but some in the gloom with a pair of Grey Partridges flushed from the south side. My first ever record here. Patchwork Challenge
