Anpu Just as you intended, this is incredibly important resource for empowerment. Asking students to anglicize their names for convenience is never okay. Thank you for these tips on how to recognize people and work to be more inclusive.

@drjenlim Anpu I LOVE everything about this! Also love that the first name on that list (Yazhini) rhymes with mine except difficulty level = Asian 😂 (the 'zh' sound is not what one likely thinks it is)

Anpu I feel v stressed when someone doesn't repeat my name back 2 me because I *know* they will get it completely wrong. Most likely they will call me Suzanne which means needle in Farsi. Pronounced correctly my name is a lily. I was recently called stubborn for correcting someone

it is SO IMPORTANT to say people's names correctly!! Your name is part of who you are - if I or anyone says your name incorrectly, please speak up 💛💛

See also gaelic names. I really hate it when people don’t even try. I *did* find funny a whole bunch of aunt-in-laws at our wedding say ”ah, *that’s* how to say your name” 😂

Decades ago I was so embarrassed by correcting folks, being told my name was too hard to pronounce that I just started introducing myself as “swami” to avoid it I wish this was around back then. Thanks Anpu
