A team led by Prof Bart De Strooper (UK DRI at UCL & VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research) has transplanted human microglia into mouse brains to study how the cells respond to amyloid plaques in #Alzheimers 🧠
The findings could have implications for future treatments👉buff.ly/3TT7BCI
So happy to see our latest work published today in Nature Neuroscience 🥳 terrific team effort and loads of fun with shared first authors MINDlab and Anna Martínez at De Strooper Lab. Microglia enthusiasts, let's take a short journey through the paper 🧵⬇️ go.nature.com/4av0PZd
🚨it’s out!! Check our latest work in Nature Neuroscience. What a privilege to have worked with MINDlab and Nicola Fattorelli and the amazing colleagues at the De Strooper Lab, MancusoLab, VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research , VIB Center for Molecular Neurology , UK Dementia Research Institute
I might be biased as besides being fantastic scientists, these people are awesome humans, but I’m so absolutely proud of the work done by Anna Martínez Nicola Fattorelli MINDlab 🧠 PS. Still a neuron lover over here, but ok, microglia is cool too 😎 #ADPD2024

An MCH-mediated homeostatic mechanism counteracts the increased excitatory drive to CA1 neurons and altered #sleep in Alzheimer's disease model mice, but this mechanism fails in older mice

Thanks to @HenekaMichael for giving us the chance to show our latest data on how human microglia respond in Alzheimer’s disease! And thank you all for the fantastic discussion! VIB VIB Center for Molecular Neurology UAntwerpen
Human microglia respond differently to amyloid than do mouse microglia. The former adopt antigen-presenting, cytokine-, and interferon-based responses, while the latter mainly assume the DAM phenotype. #alzheimersdisease KU Leuven Boston Children's ow.ly/eCBI50LnuVn
So cool to see our research featured on Alzforum!! Take a look at the article below for a nice summary of the in vitro study from beth stevens and our xenografts work with MINDlab Anna Martínez De Strooper Lab 🧠🧫🐁
Multi-pronged is our new favorite word! AD genetics is complex, and so is human microglia reaction to amyloid. Check out our latest pre-print 🧠🐁⬇️ biorxiv.org/content/early/… Massive collaborative work and fun with MINDlab Anna Martínez De Strooper Lab VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research
