We've been working on, Malloy, a new experimental data language. If you work in SQL, we'd love your feedback. github.com/looker-open-so…

Wordlebot is on a hot streak. 4-3-3 (Maybe 3.5 today). The algorithm takes into account both common letters and their positions. Wordlebot is written in Malloy and SQL in about 50 lines of code. Wordle 216 3/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ 🟨🟩⬜⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 looker-open-source.github.io/malloy/documen…

Wow, excited for the interest in Malloy (an experimental data language). Anika Swenson just made a great explainer video. youtube.com/watch?v=rttevu…

One of the really hard problems in SQL is that JOINs have side effects in aggregate functions. Most BI tools make you join first for this reason. I'm really pleased with how we solved this in Malloy (and LookML). Aggregate computations are localized. looker-open-source.github.io/malloy/documen…

Malloy Design Blog: Micheal describes our thinking around filtering data. It turns out that isolating the data you want to understand is the very first step in any analysis. Malloy has some interesting thinking here.

It’s an exciting time for Malloy. It's easy to start with the VSCode plugin (thanks to DuckDB), you can use Malloy to explore data in local CSV or Parquet files in addition to Postgres and BigQuery. You only need VSCode to work with data, Try it! (1/3) github.com/looker-open-so…

A SQL based Semantic Data Model describes calculations and relationships in data so you don't have to repeat yourself. Querying a semantic model is much the same as querying a table but without the complexity of the calculations. Here is an example in #Malloy

It’s a hyperdimensional work of art. When Looker founder lloyd tabb showed me his new project Malloy I thought immediately back to Napoleon’s March. Malloy makes hyperdimensional data analysis straightforward. It’s a new type of semantic layer. An example helps explain Malloy

I just wrote about why SQL and its awful syntax is problematic, and how Malloy by lloyd tabb does better -- carlineng.com/?postid=sql-ba…

After a few months of working on Omni, I took some time to reflect on my experience in BI over the past decade, and how I see Omni taking us into the future 🔮
