Study led by Meredith Niles compares the impacts of climate, socioeconomic, and geographic factors on child malnourishment 🌽 Worryingly, negative impacts on child nutrition from climate could outweigh positive impacts from development in low/mid-income countries Summary (1/5)

Wheat blast was recently reported in Africa for the first time. We analyzed genotyping data recently posted by Tembo et al. to compare isolates from Zambia with other populations #openwheatblast #openplantpath zenodo.org/record/4605959 zenodo.org/record/4618522

Dr Joe Win explained how #OpenScience can help us rapidly respond to plant diseases such as wheat blast. #OpenWheatBlast is a great example of how instantly accessible data can help solve global problems. openwheatblast.net

Very excited to publish this great #openwheatblast community effort on how a clonal lineage of the #wheatblast fungus has gone #pandemic and is threatening food security at this very delicate time biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/n

⚠️BREAKING NEWS 🐣 It's official, we have bee-eater chicks! The wardens have been watching closely and seen an upping of food being brought to one of the nest holes. ...But while it's great news for the birds, we can't ignore this stark reminder of our overheating planet 👇

I’m extremely grateful and excited that my #ERCStG “PANDEMIC” has been selected for funding by European Research Council (ERC)! In this project we will design wheat immune receptors against the pandemic wheat blast fungus by turning the host’s weak spots into a defense strategy.

People aren't just catching COVID in hospitals- they're being exposed to COVID as part of a deliberate policy choice of not taking any precautions. This is entirely a preventable issue- and it's a choice to let vulnerable people die of COVID they were exposed to in hospital.

It's a deliberate choice to expose those most vulnerable to a high risk pathogen in an environment they can't avoid, even if it means they die or develop long COVID. There's nothing passive about this- given how simple prevention would be. It's a choice.
