Fish farming isn't a solution to over fishing. The growth of industrial fish farming has just increased the number of animals, wild and farmed, killed for food. Climate and conservation orgs that promote fish farming need to critically look at their assumptions

Ya'll, I don't post about non-food politics, but this is devastating. My wife is pregnant with our 2nd boy. Before our first, we had a miscarriage. We then had a complicated delivery. The idea that medical staff would deny us care makes me sob. This woman should be alive today.

Well...the #BirdFlu outbreak may be about to get a lot worse—first case detected in pigs. aphis.usda.gov/news/agency-an…

#H5N1 #birdflu has been found in a pig in Oregon, Dept. of Agriculture and the state's Ag Dept announced today. The significance of this is unclear at this point, but in general, H5 in pigs would not be a good thing. statnews.com/2024/10/30/h5n…

Dropping up charge for climate friendly foods is choice architecture at work. A huge % of Starbucks Co2 come from dairy products and this will likely help them meet their climate goals.

Whoever wins the election is going to have to deal with a bird flu outbreak that shows no signs of letting up, and now seems destined to become the next pandemic… at a time when neither administration seems willing or able to focus on fighting infectious disease. 😞

It was never going to burn itself out. And was never going to stop spreading w/ no surveillance to track it & no action to stop it. It wasn’t only Dept. of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack who let it spread, several right under him at usda, via political pressure or naïveté, let it burn. It’ll never

New research showing almost 10% of dairy workers exposed to infected animals contract bird flu. That means thousands of dairy workers probably have had bird flu already. We are absolutely letting the next #pandemic rip.

.CDC is now warning the public about the risks of #birdflu and the Dept. of Agriculture only *just* announced that they would require testing of milk. The pandemic cow is already out of the barn

Another large scale industrial 'cage-free' egg operation was hit with #BirdFlu, killing of 45k hens. The price of eggs and poultry are going to be impacted as bird flu continues to rip

⚠️ BREAKING: The H5 bird flu-infected teenager in British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦 is hospitalized in critical condition, according to health officer Bonny Henry.

BNO News (@bnofeed) 's Twitter Profile Photo

UPDATE: Human bird flu case in Canada confirmed as H5N1, according to health officials. The teen is infected with clade 2.3.4.4b, genotype D.1.1, which was also found in poultry in B.C. and Washington state.

National governments continue to stockpile treatment for #BirdFlu while the Dept. of Agriculture does almost nothing to prevent spread. Why wont regulators act? Easy, Big Meat doesn't want them to. They'd rather be able to export chickens to China than prevent further spread.

The #BirdFlu outbreak is a factory farming problem. My comments in Los Angeles Times: "Factory farms notorious for raising billions of sickly animals in filthy, cramped conditions provide a recipe for viruses like bird flu (H5N1) to emerge and spread.” latimes.com/environment/st…
