Always useful when a decent trial explodes the myth behind some nostrum or another. This one was krill oil for OA knee. Australia has a pretty good track record for this, after paracetamol.

In the UK we work to mimise tax. In the US people work to earn more. Very much like the tax wall. I'm sure I once saw data showing the preponderance of earning in various brackets peaking just below a wall. Maximum marginal tax rate in Scotland is 63%. Wanna work there?

And what Nectar do is to give the call centre number. The one that has been totally useless for the past several weeks. So unhelpful that one wonders whether it is deliberate obfuscation.

We’ve just used this paper - and tool - in my course on Open Science & Peer Reviewing!

Simple 6-point instrument for narrative bias (spin) tested on RCTs and SR of cannabinoids for pain. Moderate or severe narrative bias found in 24% of RCTs and 17% of SR. Reading title and abstract only gives incorrect impression of efficacy or safety in about 1 in 5 papers.

Is scientific fabrication additive? A desperate shout for attention, perhaps.

263 papers with 74,667 people between 2009 and July 2022, 72% recruiting from one hospital in Egypt. There were 88 ongoing studies in May 2017.

Urea cycle and citric acid cycle by the great Sir Hans Krebs, who explained in his autobiography how he stood on the shoulders of six generations of great German scientists. Alexander von Humboldt. And why not Google? Have you a brain the size of a planet?

How we would like this to be a breakthrough. Simple organics (terpenes are C5H8, like rubber) at a dose equivalent to 14,000 mg in a 70 kg human produce analgesia equivalent to 700 mg in a 70kg human. Potential for therapy for neuropathic pain? Not holding my breath.

Seen at the finish of the Plymouth half marathon this morning. Every little helps. [and PS, I was only spectating and cheering on Team Moore]

More than infrequently I wonder what sort of world we inhabit. I'm all for a bit of silliness, but seeing an advertorial in the Times on luxury wedding stationary took this morning's biscuit. It's only a wedding. Send an email.

Is anyone having issues with Octopus Energy billing. Since switching to a fixed Loyalty tariff they keep double charging, and now quadruple charging. They say: 'We believe energy should be better. A better experience for customers,'. I say: 'yeah, right'.

One despairs, really despairs. Free movement for young people would have been terrific for UK and European science.

Love this from JAMA. Community parks initiative with redesign and renovation of neighbourhood parks by the municipal NYC; 33 in the CPI and 22 not. Measured numbers of users over three years. Lots of stats, but who needs them? Green is good

CBD Flops Big Time For Pain | American Council on Science and Health

Introducing (cannabidiol), the latest fad in the ever-expanding universe of pseudo-medicine! It's the 'miracle' cure that's as easy to buy as a candy bar and about as effective as wishing on a shooting

Instructive to see how THC concentrations in cannabis has changed over time, 67,000 samples here for herbal cannabis, but same for other forms. No change in CBD concentrations over time. Neat SR in Addiction 2020 116:1000.

Well this is an interesting comment of the recent history of research publishing. It might look different if it was simply the number one could trust, or were worthwhile, or even both.
