Good morning from the front porch at Baldwin’s Mills, Quebec. Lac Lyster is still frozen solid and Mont Pinnacle is obliterated by the snow! But the birds are still singing and I’m warm and cozy in Cantons-de-l'Est kept company by the magicians at CBC Radio Daniel Greaves.

My niece Emily is a young nurse just starting her career in Ottawa. Less than a month after starting her new job, she has Covid. She’s on isolation in a new city, on her own. Her parents - my sister and brother-in-law - drove 8 hours to bring Easter to her doorstep. So proud.

May 9 is #WorldMigratoryBirdDay. Last fall, a study co-authored by our National Zoo's Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center scientists showed bird populations in the U.S. and Canada have declined by 29 percent since 1970. But you can help #BringBirdsBack. s.si.edu/3dlFvYD #WMBD2020

It’s #NationalNursingWeek — let’s all thank the nurses who are doing exceptional work every day, and in particular, during the fight against #COVID19. Thank you for all that you do to help keep us safe and healthy. You are true heroes.

Over 400 million migratory birds are predicted to take flight tonight. If you can, turn off your porch light, pull the shades, and extinguish decorative lights. Every bit helps!
