I know at first hand how much Andrew George cares about both local people and local wildlife. I know he volunteers with a local nature recovery project, I know he has fundraised for Cornwall Wildlife Trust 6/12
These are things I know as a constituent. With my professional hat on - Andrew George helped me to set up our Cornwall Badgers vaccination project, securing the first funding which got it off the ground and using his Westminster connections to help me influence policy 7/12
And for his record in parliament - Andrew George was perhaps best known for his fight against the "bedroom tax" (and the "pasty tax"!) 8/12 theguardian.com/society/2014/s…
When Andrew George had the chance to propose a private members bill, he chose the Affordable Homes Bill. When his Conservative successor had the same opportunity, he used it to try to strip Natural England of its powers to designate nature reserves 9/12
The Conservative government has been a disaster for everything I care about: the environment, education, mental health... happily Andrew George is not just a fantastic choice, he's also the tactical vote most likely to unseat the conservative incumbent 10/12
So why not vote Green? Apart from the tactical voting issue, at the Cornwall Wildlife Trust 〓〓 hustings I was shocked to see the Green candidate (who is a farmer) siding with the Conservative in wanting to strip Natural England of its powers to designate SSSIs. So no vote from me 11/12
So I will be voting for Andrew George tomorrow, and hoping that enough others do the same, that I can once again have an MP who stands up for the local community, for local wildlife, and for ethical policymaking. And maybe even a government that does the same 12/12
Thank you Andrew George and Jayne Kirkham MP for Truro & Falmouth for raising Community Land Trust Network in a debate on housing, here's how Matthew Pennycook MP responded.
